Int Corps P Coy question…
Soon to be joining the Corps and wanted to know from anyone serving or past serving if there are concrete opportunities to undertake All Arms Commando or P Coy course as well as the Jumps course? I have read that either one of these is needed to join SFSG (presuming there is an INT detachment at St Athan)! I turned down a career with the RM for the Corps but am still keen to get my lid and generallly kick the arse out of it wherever I can! Also has anyone undertaken JSG selection? Thanks guys/girls! :thumright: Read the rest of this entry »
Anarchy and Disability
Can't quite work out if this email I received the day is a wind up but given source suspect it may be genuine! There was a note to distribute widely so only doing my bit that way! HAve left off the email addresses at bottom for some reason, but can be supplied by PM if you want. "Call for Papers: Anarchism and Disability 2nd Anarchist Studies Network Conference: “Making Connections” Loughborough University, U.K. 3-5 September 2012 Dear Colleagues, This call for papers is for a Disability and Anarchism strand within the 2ndASN conference. More details on the full conference can be found at http://anarchist-studies-network.org.uk/ We believe that disability as an axis of oppression in capitalist society has been paid relatively little attention by anarchists and other radical theorists (outside of the relatively small and insular field of Disability Studies, which in the UK has largely been dominated by Marxists and, more recently, post-structuralists), and that it is of potentially vital importance for the anarchist movement at this point in history, both because disabled people are at the sharp end of the current attacks on freedom and equality by the ruling class in the UK, EU and elsewhere, and because analyses of the politics of disability, and of wider society from a disabled standpoint, have urgently needed fresh insights to offer to revolutionary activists and theorists. Issues that we would like to see covered by this session include (but are not exclusive to): - analyses of the centrality of wage-work and "productivity" in Western society from anarchist and Disability Studies perspectives - inclusion and exclusion in education and how this intersects with anarchist and related movements for radical educational alternatives - the Disabled People's Movement as a liberation movement and its relevance to contemporary anarchism - possible anarchist responses to the current demonisation of disabled people and dismantling of state welfare support for disabled people by governments in the UK and elsewhere - the intersections of drug prohibition, the prison industrial system, and psychiatric and other medical-institutional systems, and radical critiques of statist drug liberalisation - examining the unexamined disablism in anarchist and other "radical" spaces and activist practices, and how these could benefit from greater inclusion of disabled people and consideration of their particular experiences of oppression. We initially envisage the format of this session as two panels of relatively short paper presentations (depending on space and time available and number of paper proposals), followed by an open, non-hierarchically facilitated discussion. However, we would be open to other suggestions of possible structures, particularly in regard to increasing the accessibility of the session to a greater variety of participants. Abstracts of 250 words detailing your proposed presentation or discussion should be submitted by the 31st of March 2012. For submissions and more information please contact: Read the rest of this entry »

Royal Navy Persec?
Happened to pop on to the royal navy site. Home | Royal Navy They've got up a real fancy widget that allows you to see where their ships are real time on a map. You can view by ship to see what they're doing, where they are etc. E.g The HMS York is doing 'Training'. Clicking a link for "locate HMS York on a map" It pulls up a map with a blip on it. This is all very well and good, and its nice to see where everything is on a world view, but the other part of me thinks - holy f* are you crazy?? Surely this renders all the adverts about Per Sec and not updating on facebook etc completely redundant, if you're going to post to the world where everything is and what they're doing? Though no nuclear subs fortunately... Read the rest of this entry »
Is it worth buying Airborne webbing anymore?
Alright guys, Do you think it's worth buying a new set of Airborne webbing with all this news about only wearing issue kit on ops and you can only wear MTP etc etc. I can understand only being allowed to wear issue kit on ops for insurance purposes but what about in the UK? I can't see my unit enforcing it too much as everyone has their own kit. I've got an old set of Troopers webbing in DPM but was looking at getting something in Tan or Olive Green as it all turns the same colour anyway! I've heard they are bringing out an issue Molle blast belt as well. Also what do you think the future of load carriage will be? Stick with belt kit or adopt something integrated with body armour? Cheers. Read the rest of this entry »

Electric Heater v Gas Boiler
I'm dabbling with just going electric rather then using 2 energy suppliers. My question is : Can any modern day electric water heaters compete with gas boilers in regard to water heating? I need at least 20 minutes of constant hot water. Are there any such electric boilers out there on the market? Cheers Snake Read the rest of this entry »
